The Suga Bites Back!

According to documents just made available on the eve of the release of the new Sugababes album “Sweet 7”, The original Sugababes line up is suing in Europe’s High Court for the ownership of the Sugababes name. Unbelievably, the name had never been trademarked, and while Mutya Buena first submitted an application in November 2009 (a mere two months after Keisha, the last original member was given the boot), that document has been amended to include Siobhan and Keisha. If successful, the three will have the right to use the name in marketing CDs and services throughout Europe. The new line up only has until May 8th to oppose the petition.

This is an interesting turn of events as the new incarnation of the Sugababes just signed an international deal with Jay-Z’s RocNation label last year. So does that mean if the original three win, that they’ll be able to control the name and it’s use in international territory? Does that also mean that they’ll be reforming? Also, if the High Court rules in Sugababes 1.0’s favor, what does that mean for Keisha’s solo’s efforts? Stay tuned…it’s about to get “Ugly”!

Inspired by it’s editorial features “A Room Of My Own”, TV will partner with Idea Nuova Global to introduce bedding and decor inspired by fashion forward trends. Expect price points to be set at $250 and below.

Alexander McQueen Funeral

The family of late designer Lee Alexander McQueen held a funeral today in London. The private gathering of just over 100 people was attended by the likes of Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and Kate Moss. A McQueen spokesperson has stated that a public memorial will be held following the posthumous showing of his collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Allegedly, Madonna has secured a 2 song deal with Warner Music for Brazililan boy toy Jesus Luz, At the rock bottom price of having a few hits from her back catalog used for licensing purposes. [Because we’re dying to hear “Holiday” in a Kia commercial]. The first single “We Came From Light” should be out this summer, and could lead to a full LP if it does well enough.

I don’t recall ever hearing this dude speak, much less sing, and if the reaction my body has to Enrique Iglesias’ caterwauling is any indication, this isn’t going to end well.

The Plot Thickens!

Jennifer Lopez herself has issued a statement regarding her departure from Sony Music. She now claims that she was simply at the end of her contract, and chose to end her relationship with Sony.

“I am making this statement to put an end to any confusion in regards to my next album, titled Love,” she said. “I have belonged to the Sony family since the beginning of my career as a singer and together we’ve had great success. I have fulfilled my contractual responsibilities with Sony/Epic up to this point, and we have both reached friendly terms about my departure from the label,” the statement continued.

“I’m also happy to say that we’ve found a new home for my album Love and that it is slated for release in the Summer of 2010.”

So if the departure was so “friendly” and “amicable”, why would you run to another label with the album (allegedly Island Def Jam, who frankly, are not known for the handling of Multi-Platinum stars over the course of a project: ask Janet Jackson)? Also, if your contract was just “up”, didn’t you know that when you started recording “LOVE?”? Why not release the album then walk? And if “LOVE?” was SOOO great do you really think Sony would have let you walk away with it? I think not.

So much for “Louboutins”. Sony/Epic Music handed Jennifer Lopez a chankla and her walking papers this week. According to La Lopez’s manager Benny Medina, the decision to split “was a mutual one”. From a statement made Monday:

“The time was right to make a change that best serves the direction her career as an actress and recording artist”.

Translation: All the strategic branding and Auto Tune in the world wasn’t going to make this “Love?” album happen and we’re cutting our losses.Also, Benny, didn’t she sue you back in 2003 for “diverting and misappropriating monies”? Sounds like you both need more people.

Today marks OfficeMax’s “A Day Made Better” initative as the company is dolling out classroom supplies to 1,300 lucky –and unknowing–teachers nationwide (that more than $1M). I kind of avoided the Emmys this year because the show is usually a snore fest, I was really busy last week, and I kind of don’t want to cover it until I can actually be there. That said, your one Emmy fashion post is dedicated to Heidi Klum.

She made multiple impeccable outfit changes throughout the evening, each one a showstopper in it’s own way. She began her very busy Emmy evening in Armani for the red carpet (shown above) and then changed into an Elise Øverland black sequin jumpsuit followed by a Valentino pale yellow gown. Up next was a Roland Mouret black and white printed cocktail dress, a Dior leopard silk chiffon dress, a Michael Kors colbalt blue dress, a lilac and chartreuse gown by Christian Siriano (shown above) that was JUST shown on the runways, and then another Armani black dress (shown above) for the Governor’s Ball. She paired all of these stunners with makeup by Linda Hay and jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz.

Nintendo DS Presents: Project Beauty

Women in Japan will soon be able to have their own handheld beauty consultant after games company Sega teamed up with cosmetics giant Shiseido to offer make-up tips on the Nintendo DS.

Project Beauty, which will go on sale from November 27 in Japan, is used with a scanning device that feeds digital images of the user’s face into the DS, which analyses the shape and position of the eyes, lips and other parts.

The software, priced at $US55 including the scanning device, matches faces with one of four groups - cool, active, cute or feminine.

It would then show a user’s face with no make-up on one screen and a proposed make-over on the other.

The new software targets women in their 20’s and 30’s, in Nintendo’s continued quest to court users who aren’t core gamers.
